TOM PETTY & JEFF LYNNE - COMICS Jeff Lynne is one the characters of a comic strip about Tom Petty. It was created by  American cartoonist Steve Winchell and gets published every week on Sean Rose's blog. Jeff Lynne est l'un des personnages d'une BD sur Tom Petty. VINNIE CORBIT - LAREDO TOMATO Vinnie Corbit is an American ELO fan. He had the brilliant idea to cover "Laredo Tornado" mixing it along with "Dark City" (bonus track available on the remastered reissue of the "Eldorado" album"). The result is excellent. He entitled his cover "Laredo Tomato". Vinnie Corbit est un américain fan d'ELO. Il a eu la très bonne idée de reprendre "Laredo Tornado" en le mélangeant avec la démo "Dark City" (bonus disponible sur la réédition remastérisé de l'album "Eldorado"). Le résultat est excellent. XANADU - KOREA Here are several Korean commercials to promote the stage adaptation of the musical "Xanadu" who will begin in September in Seoul. Besides, the show has  now got an official website. Voici plusieurs spots publicitaires coréens pour promouvoir l'adaptation théatrale du film "Xanadu" qui débutera en septembre à Séoul. D'autre part, la comédie musicale a maintenant un site internet officiel.

MR. BLUE SKY Jeff Lynne wrote "Mr. Blue Sky" in a chalet in Switzerland in 1977. Someone tried to discover exactly which chalet it was so as to know which landscape could have inspired this song. TERRY WALLACE - 1942-2008 Terry Wallace, guitarist from Birmingham, died on 14 August at 66. He was one of the membres of the band Carl Wayne & The Vikings. This group included several future members of The Move among whom future Electric Light Orchestra drummer, Bev Bevan. Terry Wallace, guitariste de Birmingham, est mort le 14 août à l'âge de 66 ans. Il était l'un des membres du groupe Carl Wayne & The Vikings. Cette formation comprenait plusieurs futurs membres de The Move dont le futur batteur d'Electric Light Orchestra, Bev Bevan.

ROY ORBISON - THE SOUL OF ROCK AND ROLL A Roy Orbison box set will be released on 30th September. "The Soul Of Rock And Roll" will contain 4 CDs with over one hundred songs spanning the singer's entire career, including over a dozen unreleased and rare songs. The box set will also have a book containing pictures and more about the artist, his personal life and career. A limited edition deluxe box set will be released with an 80 pages book featuring notes and a host of testimonials from friends and fans including Jeff Lynne, Tom Waits, Bruce Springsteen, Chris Isaak, Tom Petty, Elvis Costello, Neil Diamond... Besides, Roy Orbison final concert (on 04th December 1998)  may be released with some songs from his last album "Mystery Girl" on which Jeff Lynne had worked... ELO - NEW MUSICAL Adam Shankman, director of "Hairspray", has been tapped to direct a new musical based on the music of Electric Light Orchestra. The film has a working title of "The Trump Hiltons" and listed in the possible cast for the film are Steve Carell, Sarah Jessica Parker, Morgan Fairchild, Leslie Kritzer, Amanda Bynes and Matthew Broderick. The plot is the rise and fall of a popular trust fund family from Manhattan. The film is tentatively set for a summer 2010 opening. It's a only a project, a lot of things may change by then... Adam Shankman, réalisateur de "Hairspray", a été choisi pour réaliser une nouvelle comédie musicale basée sur la musique d'Electric Light Orchestra. JEFF LYNNE & JORG Jeff Lynne attended Monty Python member Eric Idle concert. The event took place at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on 1st August. Jörg, a lucky fan, managed to have a photo taken with his idol at the end of the show. Jeff Lynne a assisté à un concert d'un membre des Monthy Python, Eric Idle. ECO ELO The "Ticket To The Moon" compilation will be reissued in "Eco-Friendly Packaging" format on 22 July. What's that? The CD use the minimal amount of packaging necessary and the materials used are 100% recycled. La compilation "Ticket To The Moon" va ressortir le 22 juillet en version "Eco-Friendly Packaging". Qu'est ce que c'est? Le CD est dans un packaging allégé et le matériel utilisé est 100% recyclable.

XANADU - MAGICAL MUSICAL EDITION The movie "Xanadu" has been re-released on DVD on 24 June (DVD region 1 - USA and Canada only). Except the restored picture and 5.1 surround sound, the DVD boxset is of little interest. The CD bonus is the same the one released in 1998 and Olivia Newton-John or Jeff Lynne don't feature in the documentary "Going Back To Xanadu"... KIKI DEE & ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA MEMBERS In 1977, some Electric Light Orchestra members took part in British singer Kiki Dee album: Richard Tandy (ELO keyboard player), Hugh McDowell and Melvin Gale (ELO cellists ), as well as Louis Clark (ELO strings conductor). The album is reissued with bonus tracks. On the track "How Much Fun": polymoog and strings arrangement (Richard Tandy), strings conductor (Louis Clark). On the track "Into Eternnity": cellos and strings arrangements (Hugh McDowell and Melvin Gale). En 1977, certains membres d'Electric Light Orchestra ont collaboré à un album de la chanteuse anglaise Kiki Dee: Richard Tandy (claviériste dans ELO), Hugh McDowell et Melvin Gale (violoncellistes dans ELO), ainsi que Louis Clark (chef d'orchestre dans ELO). XANADU - AWARDS The cast of the stage adaptation of the musical "Xanadu" on Broadway performed ELO's "Don't Walk Away" at the Tony Awards ceremony. Despite several nominations, the musical didn't receive any prize... However, "Xanadu" won the prize for outstanding book for a musical at the Drama Desk Awards. Douglas Carter Bean, the adapter of "Xanadu" on Broadway, came to take the prize. La troupe jouant l'adaptation théatrale de "Xanadu" à Broadway a interprété "Don't Walk Away" d'ELO à la cérémonie des Tony Awards. Malgré plusieurs nominations, "Xanadu" n'a reçu aucun prix... VILLAINS - ELO !!! "Villains" is the name of a play now showing in Chicago. It is performed by the New Millenium Theatre Company. It uses many ELO songs in the show (Sweet Talkin' Woman, Four Little Diamonds, Jungle, Secret Messages...). "Villains" est le nom d'une pièce jouée actuellement par le New Millenium Theatre Company à Chicago. Il utilise de nombreuses chansons d'ELO dans le show (Sweet Talkin' Woman, Four Little Diamonds, Jungle, Secret Messages...).

XANADU CAST - DO YA The cast of the stage adaptation of the musical "Xanadu" on Broadway performed ELO's "Do Ya" at the Tony Awards Preview Concert on TV. This song doesn't feature in the show though it had been planned to. La troupe jouant l'adaptation théatrale de "Xanadu" à Broadway a interprété "Do Ya" d'ELO au concert d'avant-première des Tony Awards à la TV. BARRY "BAZ" DUNNERY - 1952-2008 Violinski guitarist, Barry "Baz" Dunnery, died of cancer on 29 May at 56 year old. Violinski was a band created in 1977 around former ELO's members Mik Kaminski and Mike De Albuquerque. Dunnery played also with Necromandus, Black Sabbath and Blizzard Of Ozz. Le Guitariste de Violinski, Barry "Baz" Dunnery, est mort d'un cancer le 29 mai à l'âge de 56 ans. Violinski était un groupe formé en 1977 par 2 membres d'ELO: Mik Kaminski et Mike De Albuquerque. Dunnery avait également joué avec Necromandus, Black Sabbath et Blizzard Of Ozz.

XANADU - KOREA The stage adaptation of the musical "Xanadu" will run from 9 September to 23 November in Seoul (Korea). L'adaptation théatrale du film "Xanadu" aura lieu du 09 septembre au 23 novembre à Séoul (Corée).

THE TRAVELING WILBURYS - VOL.1 & VOL.3 The Traveling Wilburys boxset is going to be updated and released as 2 individual volumes by Rhino Records. The "Volume 1" and "Volume 3" will be available on 3 June. The separate editions will feature remastered versions of the band's classic tracks, as well as the bonus material. Le coffret des Traveling Wilburys va être réactualisé et sortir en 2 CDs individuels par Rhino Records. Les "Volume 1" et "Volume 3" seront disponibles le 3 juin. Chaque volume séparé comprendra l'album original en version remastérisé et les titres bonus déja présents sur dans le coffret.

It contains 5 tracks in which Jeff Lynne had taken part: "Free Fallin'", "Into The Great Wide Open",  "Learning To Fly", "I Won't Back Down" and "Runnin' Down A Dream". ELO EXPERIENCE Gary Hopkins, former singer of an Electric Light Orchestra tribute band, the ELO Experience, lodged a complaint with an employment tribunal following his dismissal on January. He said he took part in 102 shows for the band and considered that he was still owed more than £1000 in salary. The managing company of the band made a settlement by paying him £600 in cash. The British band has since found a new lead singer and is currently touring in Las Vegas. Gary Hopkins, l'ancien chanteur d'un groupe hommage à Electric Light Orchestra, ELO Experience, avait porté plainte devant les prud'hommes suite à son éviction en janvier dernier. Il déclarait avoir donné 102 concerts et considrait qu'on lui devait encore plus de 1000 livres de salaire. Un arrangement financier de 600 livres cash a été trouvé avec le manager. Le groupe anglais a depuis trouvé un nouveau chanteur et joue actuellement à Las Vegas.

PAIN - HERE IS THE NEWS Pain is a Swedish metal/industrial band. For the reissue of their album "Psalms Of Extinction", a cover of "Here Is The News" by ELO appears as a bonus track specially for the UK and Russian edition. JEFF LYNNE & THE BEATLES Octavio Cavalli and Max Gonzales are 2 Argentinian musicians who are fans of the Beatles. They worked in studio on an album of previously unrealeased Beatles songs: "With A Little Help". You can read this on the back cover: "These recordings are a tribute to the Beatles reunion occured in 1995, when Jeff Lynne produced the finishing of 2 Lennon demos with the surviving Beatles. We choose some demos by John, Paul & George and tried to capture the sound that Lynne would have given to them if a complete reunion album had been made!". Besides being almost a new Beatles album, it's also a tribute to Jeff Lynne as a producer. You can listen to the album here and download it here. To urgently discover! TONY AWARDS - XANADU The Tony Awards are the most important annual award for the theatre (plays and musicals) in the USA. The stage adaptation of the musical "Xanadu" on Broadway is nominated 4 times (best musical, best book, best performance by a leading actress, best choreography). The prize-giving ceremony will take place in New-York on 15th June and will be broadcast on CBS televison. It's a limited and hand-numbered edition of only 500 copie. The EP includes the following themes: "I'll Never Stop", "This Is Heaven", "Sorry".
